The Innovation Financing Committee of COTEC, chaired by Caixabank, held a meeting last week in which LINEEX implemented an experiment in behavioral economics. The objective of the experiment was to explore behavioural patterns of the workforce before the arrival of Industry 4.0 where robots will be the new actors in the market. In this sense, Penélope Hernández (director of LINEEX) said that “society knows that in the near future robotization will threaten many jobs, but it is difficult to anticipate what this means in terms of productivity.” Experimentation is the only tool that allows us to anticipate the effects of this type of innovation, since there is no data available yet. “
The experiment involved more than thirty representatives of the COTEC Board, who were invited to make decisions related to the impact of the automation processes in the labor market and to different scenarios, regulatory, fiscal and productivity.
The evaluation of the results obtained is inspired by a larger experiment, promoted by COTEC, in which about one thousand students of the University of Valencia have already participated. The session was directed by the director of the Laboratory of Experimental Economics and Behavior (LINEEX), Penélope Hernández, who was accompanied by researchers Antonio Cabrales (UCL) and Ángel Sánchez (UC3M) of the UMICCS research group.
